Water Resources Project Manager

Christopher B. Burke Engineering, LLC has an immediate opening for a Water Resources Project Manager with a minimum of 5 years of experience to join our team. We seek experienced and responsive professionals who are committed to personal service. Qualified individuals must be self-motivated and looking to handle a multitude of various projects. Burke is a full-service civil engineering and environmental firm that can comprehensively meet the needs of both private and public sector clients. Our Civil Design and Water Resources groups focus on a wide range of projects including roadways, parking lots, bike paths, parks, and pedestrian facilities, utility permitting, stormwater management studies and design, floodplain analysis, and permitting and design for a variety of municipalities, counties, and INDOT/LPA.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and manage water resources projects
  • Develop, review and comment on water resources studies, technical memoranda, calculations, models, and overall work product
  • Lead project planning, project tracking, scope management, change control management, risk management, and quality assurance of project team
  • Serve as primary point of communication for client, subconsultants and internal coordination
  • Make independent decisions based on analysis, experience and context
  • Use value engineering, optimization and judgement from previous experience as well as technical input and contributions from others throughout design process to accomplish goals
  • Communicate effectively and coordinates project components with other internal departments through email, meetings, etc.  
  • Develop proposals and project budgets and ensure projects are completed according to time and budget schedules, and that objectives conform to overall standards and operations objectives and user requirements
  • Supervise the completion, quality check and approval of client proposals and contracts
  • Maintain compliance with department procedures and standards
  • Resolve project conflicts with effective management
  • Track projects’ actual expenditures versus planned expenditures
  • Review and approve monthly billing invoices and prepares monthly progress report
  • Advise client of expenditure status, as needed
  • Develop knowledge of water resources and environmental regulations, and water resources engineering best practices and standards by leveraging job experience and attending continuing education training
  • Play an active role in business development
  • Expand existing network and influence by actively participating in professional organizations, attending networking events, and fostering new relationships that can contribute to potential talent identification and business development opportunities
  • Meet with current clients on a regular or as-needed basis to gain feedback on how to further develop and improve the relationship
  • Provide mentorship and drive employee development for direct reports
  • Participate in and contribute to identifying key talent for the company
  • Understand and lead efforts to enforce company policy and procedures

Key Qualifications:

  • B.S. or M.S. in Civil Engineering or related field and a minimum 5 years of civil design or water resources experience
  • PE license or on PE track preferred
  • Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM) preferred
  • Experience supporting and mentoring engineers
  • Proficiency with hydrologic and hydraulic modeling software applications including HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, TR-20, SWMM, HY-8, Hydraflow, xpswmm, and other complex models such as FEQ, unsteady state hydraulic models, and 2D modeling
  • Proficiency with GIS
  • Working knowledge and experience with state and regional stormwater regulations required
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills are required
  • Project experience working with various counties and/or local municipalities
  • Valid driver’s license required

Civil Design Project Manager

  • Develop proposals and project budgets and ensure projects are completed according to time and budget schedules, and that objectives conform to design standards and scope of work

Water Resources Engineer

Christopher B. Burke Engineering, LLC has an immediate opening for an entry-level Water Resources Engineer to join our team. We seek experienced and responsive professionals who are committed to personal service. Qualified individuals must be self-motivated and looking to handle a multitude of various projects. Burke is a full-service civil engineering and environmental firm that can comprehensively meet the needs of both private and public sector clients. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Apply principles, methods, and techniques of civil engineering as they relate to the analysis and design of drainage and stormwater systems
  • Assist with water resources projects including GIS database development and analysis, drainage calculations for input into hydrologic and hydraulic models and preliminary model development
  • Learn and utilize hydrologic and hydraulic models to perform simple analyses, gradually building to more complex models and analyses
  • Write technical summaries of work completed, which may include portions of technical memoranda, permit submittals or reports
  • Learn and develop knowledge of stormwater and floodplain requirements for various government agencies
  • Perform reviews of calculations within stormwater submittals on behalf of municipal or County entities, utilizing the stormwater and floodplain requirements for the government agency
  • Communicate project status and timelines effectively with supervisor and colleagues, on a daily and/or weekly basis via 1-on-1 conversations, emails, or team meetings
  • Attend client meetings as needed
  • Improve and develop an understanding and familiarity with how project budgets are created and executed
  • Work in an effective and efficient manner to assist in completing projects on time and under budget
  • Build knowledge of industry terms, processes and procedures through mentoring, self-learning, and use of technology
  • Follow the Department QA/QC process for all projects
  • Organize and maintain project files

Key Qualifications:

  • B.S. in Civil Engineering or a related field from an ABET accredited curriculum or equivalent
  • Engineer Intern (EI) Certification in the State of Indiana or other applicable states, or ability to attain within 12 months
  • 0-4 years of experience with job-related work (full-time, part-time, internship)
  • Experience with hydrologic and hydraulic modeling software applications including HECRAS, HEC-RAS, TR-20, SWMM, HY-8, Hydraflow or others

Civil Design Engineer

Burke is a full-service civil engineering and water resources firm that is seeking experienced and responsive professionals who are committed to personal service, who are self-motivated, and desire to lead a variety of projects. Our Engineering Department works on a wide range of design projects, studies, inspections, and evaluations including dams, levees, streambank stabilization, stream restoration, 1D and 2D hydraulic modeling, floodplain analysis, watershed planning, storm sewers, stormwater plan review, regulated drain reconstruction, and site design. We serve public and private clients throughout Indiana and beyond.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Direct and oversee a variety of water resources projects with minimal supervision
  • Oversee and manage a design team including delegation of work to staff members
  • Develop the scope of work and fee estimates for proposals

Christopher B. Burke Engineering, LLC has an immediate opening for a Stream Restoration Specialist with a minimum of 10 years of experience to join our Indianapolis office’s Engineering Department. Burke is a full-service civil engineering and water resources firm that that is seeking experienced and responsive professionals who are committed to personal service, who are self-motivated, and desire to lead a variety of projects. Our Engineering Department works on a wide range of design projects, studies, inspections, and evaluations including dams, levees, streambank stabilization, stream restoration, 1D and 2D hydraulic modeling, floodplain analysis, watershed planning, storm sewers, stormwater plan review, regulated drain reconstruction, and site design.   • Assist in the developing the scope of work and fee estimates for proposals for stream and wetland related projects
  • Collect and analyze field data to evaluate existing conditions and identify potential design constraints to support plan set development
  • Perform and oversee detailed fluvial geomorphic, sediment transport, biological, soil, hydrologic and hydraulic studies
  • Develop design documents, specifications, and cost estimates
  • Coordinate with regulatory agencies for project permitting
  • Participate in construction-related activities including site visits to verify compliance with design documents, responses to requests for information (RFIs), and submittal reviews
  • Participate in meetings both internally and with clients
  • Other assignments as needed

Key Qualifications:

  • B.S. in civil engineering, environmental engineering, landscape architecture, environmental sciences, or related field applicable to the position with a minimum of 10 years of experience
  • PE license preferred
  • Rosgen or similar training or certifications preferred
  • Working knowledge and experience with state and regional regulations and permitting
  • Working knowledge and experience with geomorphology and sediment transport preferred
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Valid driver’s license required
