Upper Berlowitz Stormwater Conveyance

To encourage new development and growth, communities need to take proper, sustainable drainage into consideration. After completing a master plan for the Upper Berlowitz watershed, Burke worked with the city of Lafayette and Tippecanoe County to create a drainage system to help them do just that.

The master plan included a layout of sanitary sewers, potable water lines, roads, and a stormwater conveyance system comprised of ponds, structures at future road crossings, and an outlet structure.

Burke environmental specialists and engineers provided:

  • Regional drainage system conveyance design to the parameters of master plan and county stormwater technical standards
  • Final pond, channel and pipe design
  • Interim pond design to facilitate early action development

After approving the final design, the drainage board decided to move forward with an interim pond and outlet to spur development. The interim pond and outlet allow for initial development and provides an economical means for the county to partner with development for the excavation of the final ponds as designed.
